Habits of a Leader

Lead Like Jesus

By Joe Denbow, August 28, 2022

Big idea: Great leaders have great habits

1. CLARIFY MY

1 John 4:15-16 If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

John 5:25 “And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.

Romans 1:1 This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach his Good News.

2. MARGIN

Margin - the space between your load and your limits.

Psalm 62:10 if your wealth increases, don’t make it the center of your life

We overestimate what we can do in the short term and underestimate what we can accomplish in the long term.

Psalm 84:10 A single day in your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else!

Realize that the work will never be finished

Realize that you are not the messiah

Get over self-imposed guilt

Filter other’s expectations

The goal is to never burn out for Christ. The goal is to be consistently usable for kingdom work for however long God has us on earth. - Wayne Cordeiro

3. SHARPEN YOURSELF

Luke 2:52 Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people.

Proverbs 21:31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the LORD.

Proverbs 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.

Matthew 25:1-4 “Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. The five who were foolish didn’t take enough olive oil for their lamps, but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil.

2 Peter 3:17-18 So be on guard; then you will not be carried away by the errors of these wicked people and lose your own secure footing. Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

1 Peter 5:8-9 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
