The Important Things

Generation to Generation

By Joe Denbow, February 05, 2023

We struggle to pass along the MOST IMPORTANT things.

Psalm 145:4 Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power.

Psalm 102:12 But you, O LORD, will sit on your throne forever. Your fame will endure to every generation.

Psalm 102:18 Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the LORD.

We pass on the most important things by:

1. PLACING FAITH IN GOD’S PROMISES

Genesis 12:1-3 “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you.”

Genesis 15:5-6 Then the LORD took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!” And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.

2. FOLLOWING JESUS.

Hebrews 1:1 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.

Hebrews 11:8 It was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him to leave home and go to another land that God would give him as his inheritance. He went without knowing where he was going.

Hebrews 12:1-2 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.

3. SHOWING THE WAY

Joshua 2:10 After that generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the LORD or remember the mighty things he had done for Israel.
