Saul

Summer Mixtape

- To avoid roadblocks, I have to know what they are and where they are….

1 Samuel 8:6 Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the LORD for guidance. “Do everything they say to you,” the LORD replied, “for they are rejecting me, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer.

1 Samuel 9:1 There was a wealthy, influential man named Kish from the tribe of Benjamin. He was the son of Abiel, son of Zeror, son of Becorath, son of Aphiah, of the tribe of Benjamin. His son Saul was the most handsome man in Israel—head and shoulders taller than anyone else in the land.

Saul started off looking the part, but quickly fell apart.

1 Samuel 10:9 As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day.

THINGS THAT BLOCKED SAUL FROM GOD’S BEST…

  • Fear.
  • Impatience.
  • Denial.
  • Impulsiveness.
  • Deceit.
  • Jealousy.
  • Anger.
  • Disobedience.

1 Samuel 15:10-11 Then the LORD said to Samuel, “I am sorry that I ever made Saul king, for he has not been loyal to me and has refused to obey my command.” Samuel was so deeply moved when he heard this that he cried out to the LORD all night.

1 Samuel 15:22 “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.

- We don’t need to put God’s commands through our own filter…

God is more concerned with your than your .

THINGS THAT DID NOT BLOCK DAVID FROM GOD’S BEST…

  • HIS FAMILY
  • HIS LEADER
  • HIS BACKGROUND
  • HIS YOUTHFULNESS AND INEXPERIENCE

What do we do?

1. DEAL WITH YOUR ROADBLOCKS NOW.

1 Samuel 16:7 “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

2. BE READY WHEN SHOWS UP

1 Samuel 16:18 One of the servants said to Saul, “One of Jesse’s sons from Bethlehem is a talented harp player. Not only that—he is a brave warrior, a man of war, and has good judgment. He is also a fine-looking young man, and the LORD is with him.”

3. REMEMBER. YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR PART IN YOUR ROADBLOCKS.

1 Samuel 17:34 But David persisted. “I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,” he said. “When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God! The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!”
