Romans 6:19-23

Introduction: Here we have a continuation of last week where Paul began explaining to us why we should not even entertain sin for a moment in our lives.

19a I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh.

Have you ever thought that you had a handle on sin and that it wouldn't get out of control? How did it ultimately turn out?

We prevent sin from reigning in our mortal bodies not by sin in our life but by sin from our life.

19b For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

Freedom from sin doesn't free us from .

We now have a new , righteousness or God.
The good news is that our new master is .

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

Before being freed from sin, doing right things didn't make you .

Apart from , freedom nor righteousness will ever be found.

21 What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

Fruit is something that is .

Regarding our old life no fruit or good is to be found. The end of that life was .

How can sin still negatively impact our lives as believers?

22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.

In Christ you set free and you slaves of God and you are in a place of fruit bearing.

  1. Righteous - This is what we be.
  2. Righteous - This is what we do.
  3. Righteous - This is what we sew.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
