Confess and Believe

Romans 10:9-10

Introduction- Last week we saw that in Christ the word of faith was brought near to our mouths and hearts. What is this clear message of faith?

9a that if you confess with your mouth

• Has Paul added confession as a requirement for salvation?

  • When God puts the word in your , He also puts it in your .
  • Confessing Jesus is Lord is that the heart genuinely believes.
  • confession comes from a profound conviction.

9b the Lord Jesus (that Jesus is Lord)

• Can I accept Christ as Savior and not Lord?

  • Paul is clear. We acknowledge Jesus is Lord.
  • You cannot have Him as Lord in and not on .

9c and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead,

• Is belief in the resurrection really necessary?

  • Apart from His death and resurrection, we are in our trespasses and sins.
  • The resurrection proves He is neither a nor a . So, He must be Lord.
  • Our faith is based upon a heartfelt that He is the Lord almighty, that He died in our place and He was raised from the dead.

9c you will be saved.

• Can we really know for certain we are saved?

  • The Greek text indicates a statement. You will be saved.
  • See Phil 1:6, John 6:37-40, 1 John 5:13
  • We are in the sovereign hands of the Lord Jesus if we truly believe.

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

• Are these two separate options?

  • You cannot these two statements.
  • Your mouth will follow with what from the heart.
