Did They Not Know?

July 08, 2023

Introduction- In verse 18 we considered the idea that perhaps the Jews had not heard. In response, Paul boldly declares from Psalm 19 that everyone has heard through the revelation of creation. Today we are going to see a second potential excuse that Paul will also shoot down. Let’s see what he says,

19a But I say, did Israel not know?

  • Excuse #2: I did not .

Two questions to help us evaluate if a person knows the gospel or not:

  1. Have you come to the place in your life where you know for you are going to heaven?
  2. If God was to ask you, “ should I let you into my heaven, what would you say?”

19b First Moses says: “I will provoke you to jealousy by those who are not a nation, I will move you to anger by a foolish nation.” 20 But Isaiah is very bold and says: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”

  • Paul could be asking if they knew the .

  • Paul is likely asking if they knew of Israel’s of God and God’s to the Gentiles.

  • Paul’s answer shows us that they definitely of their rejection and God’s invitation.

21 But to Israel he says: “All day long I have stretched out My hands to a disobedient and contrary people.”

  • Though they Him, God has not turned His back on them.
  • His arms are still .
