It's Sunday but Friday's Coming

Isaiah 53

Introduction – We call today Palm Sunday. It is the day Jesus triumphantly rode into Jerusalem on the colt of a donkey to the praise of the crowds who shouted, “Hosanna, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.” Sadly, as we all know, that sentiment would change by Friday. In our text today we will learn why.

Luke 22:35-37

• What change is Jesus describing in this passage?

Isaiah 53

• Why might the rabbis not have seen Isaiah 53 as a prophecy about the messiah?

How did the man described in Isaiah 53 suffer?

• Why or for what did He suffer?

• In order for us, the rejected, to be He who was altogether acceptable needed to be .

• How did things turn out for this suffering servant? Was his sacrifice enough?

• Because Jesus was numbered with the transgressors and because I have been numbered with Him, I am , God is and the world should be .

• How should the model of the suffering servant in Isaiah 53 motivate our service?

• What aspects of the Gospel message do you see in Isaiah 53:6?
