Isaiah 52:1-12

Introduction:

The picture of this passage is Isaiah’s audience seeing a battle happening a few miles away. People are dejected and are waiting to hear whether there is victory or defeat! The people are waiting in hope that the message the city will receive is their captivity is over!

  1. Vs. 1-2 Instructions of God to do:
  • We see the command of God to put on .

  • We see the command of God to get .

  • We see the command of God to ungodly things placed on themselves.

  1. Vs. 3-6 God’s Voice speaks before a great event and answers what God will do.
  • It’s God’s personal divine God is into God’s created people.

    • I am the bread of life: (John 6:35) Jesus compares himself to bread, which sustains physical life, to offer spiritual life

    • I am the light of the world: (John 8:12) Jesus offers himself as a guide to a world lost in darkness

    • I am the door of the sheep: (John 10:7, 9) Jesus protects his followers, similar to how shepherds protect their flocks

    • I am the good shepherd: (John 10:11, 14) Jesus is committed to caring for those who are his

    • I am the resurrection and the life: (John 11:25) Death is not the end for those who are in Christ

    • I am the way, the truth, and the life: (John 14:6) Jesus is the only one who can provide the way to the Father, and he is also the full revelation of the Father

    • I am the true vine: (John 15:1, 5) Jesus is the new Israel, bringing life and fruit where others have failed.

  1. Verse 7-10 Voice of God speaks to the people who our God Reigns! (It announces the event that God has done).
  • Isaiah’s key picture:
  1. The Runner (Herald) – announces the one can have instead of with God. Represents Christ.

  2. The watchmen – Shares Jesus' victory for life and rejoicing joy that one could have that comes from Jesus.

Application Questions:

  1. What do I need to do to rid myself of the things of this world?

  2. Am I putting on the clothes God has given me to wear?

  3. What set of values do I cling to or straddle the fence with when it comes to God’s desires for me to follow?

  4. What personal habits, activities do I keep on walking into or way of thinking I keep falling back into I need Christ to give me strength to overcome?

  5. Maybe just realized today I don’t have relationship with Christ at all and today I need to make him Lord and Savior of my life.
