Introduction: Throughout this letter, John has been distinguishing genuine faith from false faith. He desperately wants the believer to recognize the truth from the lie or the sheep from the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Today he will continue with that idea as John shows us two marks of the true child of God. 10a In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: (Jn 8:43-47, Acts 13:9-10 Rom5:14-17) 10b Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, • Key Principle: Children their true father. 10c nor is he who does not love his brother. 11 For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another, (See John 13:34-35 and 8:11-12) 12 not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his works were evil and his brother’s righteous. (see Gen 4:1-9)
