Jesus Is God

Labels

Big Idea: The Gospel calls us to a life above labels.

Two things to see:

  1. God’s Glory
  2. Jesus’ Identity

Luke 8

  • Jesus has power over Nature: v.22-25
  • Jesus has power over the Enemy: v.26-39
  • Jesus has power over Disease: v.40-48
  • Jesus has power over Death: v.49-56

Main point: Jesus is God, that is his label. So, What does that have to do with us?

Luke 8:22–25 22 One day he got into a boat with his disciples, and he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side of the lake.” So they set out, 23 and as they sailed he fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water and were in danger. 24 And they went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marveled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?”

Romans 8:18–25 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Brokenness and sin are problems only fixable by God.

Our first cry need be to the one who fixes all brokenness caused by sin.
