And the Lord called Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. Exodus 20:1–17 1 And God spoke… 3 “You shall have no other gods before me. 4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath 7 “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 12 “Honor your father and your mother 13 “You shall not murder. 14 “You shall not commit adultery. 15 “You shall not steal. 16 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. 17 “You shall not covet… anything that is your neighbor’s. God’s commandments embody, describe, and are rooted in a relationship. The commandments God gives on Mount Sinai are not just based IN relationships they are based ON A relationship. Exodus 3:12 (NLT) 12 … “I will be with you. And this is your sign that I am the one who has sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you will worship God at this very mountain.” With God, the relationship comes before the rules. John 1:1–2 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. John 1:14 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. Galatians 3:24 (NASB) 24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.
