Reaching Priority - We are Missionaries

We either need to be rescued or we’re on the Rescue Team.

Hebrews 11:32–33 [32] And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets—[33] who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,

We reach by stirring up not stomping down

Judges 13:25 [24] And the woman bore a son and called his name Samson. And the young man grew, and the LORD blessed him. [25] And the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.

“This is a boy conceived miraculously, chosen by God, set apart to serve him, blessed by him and shaped by his Spirit. Samson has every spiritual advantage. He is the last judge in this book, the last great hope for Israel.” - Tim Keller

Mark 1:41 CSB [41] Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched him. “I am willing,” he told him. “Be made clean.”

Matthew 20:34 CSB [34] Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes. Immediately they could see, and they followed him.

Matthew 9:36-38 CSB [36] When he saw the crowds, he felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. [37] Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. [38] Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest.”

We are going to need the Spirit of God, to move in the people of God, to live on mission with God.

We reach by standing out not blending in

Judges 14:1–3 [1] Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. [2] Then he came up and told his father and mother, “I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah. Now get her for me as my wife.” [3] But his father and mother said to him, “Is there not a woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes.”

Samson chose his own desires over God’s desires.

1 Thessalonians 4:3–5 [3] For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; [4] that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, [5] not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;

1 John 1:9 [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We reach by sacrificing self not attacking others.

Judges 16:28–30 [28] Then Samson called to the LORD and said, “O Lord GOD, please remember me and please strengthen me only this once, O God, that I may be avenged on the Philistines for my two eyes.” [29] And Samson grasped the two middle pillars on which the house rested, and he leaned his weight against them, his right hand on the one and his left hand on the other. [30] And Samson said, “Let me die with the Philistines.” Then he bowed with all his strength, and the house fell upon the lords and upon all the people who were in it. So the dead whom he killed at his death were more than those whom he had killed during his life.

Luke 9:23-24 [23] And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. [24] For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
