“34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.” - John 13:34 “18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.” - Leviticus 19:18 Jesus calls us to love one another as He has loved us. “1 Now before the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart out of this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” - John 13:1 Neither His agony nor His glory could distract Jesus from loving His own. “2 During supper, when the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, 3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going back to God, 4 rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. 5 Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” - John 13:2–5 Jesus’ love is not conditional. Loving others with a list of expectations isn’t love, it’s self-interest. Jesus doesn't allow status to limit His love. Loving like Jesus involves knowing someone’s need—and being willing to meet it. “12 This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” - John 15:12–13 Jesus loves sacrificially—therefore His disciples must love sacrificially. You may not have to die physically to love someone—but you will have to die to self. “14 You are my friends if you do what I command you.” - John 15:14 “35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” - John 13:35 How might you love others as Jesus has loved you?
