God is not worthy of worship in and of himself 20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” - Job 1:20-21 13 “If you prepare your heart, you will stretch out your hands toward him. 14 If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away, and let not injustice dwell in your tents. - Job 11:13-14 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. - 1 John 1:9 14 If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away, and let not injustice dwell in your tents. - Job 11:14 “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” - Matthew 4:17 15 Surely then you will lift up your face without blemish; you will be secure and will not fear. 16 You will forget your misery; you will remember it as waters that have passed away. 17 And your life will be brighter than the noonday; its darkness will be like the morning. 18 And you will feel secure, because there is hope; you will look around and take your rest in security. 19 You will lie down, and none will make you afraid; many will court your favor. - Job 11:15-19 “As for you, you whitewash with lies; worthless physicians are you all. 5 Oh that you would keep silent, and it would be your wisdom! Verse 7, 7 Will you speak falsely for God and speak deceitfully for him? 10 He will surely rebuke you if in secret you show partiality. 11 Will not his majesty terrify you, and the dread of him fall upon you? 12 Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay. Job 13:4-5;7;10-12 “My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.” - Job 42:7 It’s possible to be ‘wrong’ while sharing what is ‘right.’ “If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the Word of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Him. Where the battle rages there the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battle front besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.” tiqvah = a cord Confession and repentance is the ‘cord’ Zophar encourages Job to hang on to as a way to be saved from his current agony and restored to ‘The good life.’ It’s possible to be ‘religious’ while not being declared ‘righteous’ by God. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:10-12 Surely then you will lift up your face without blemish; you will be secure and will not fear. Job 11:15-19 God does not owe us health, wealth, and prosperity in this life. 13 “Let me have silence, and I will speak, and let come on me what may. 14 Why should I take my flesh in my teeth and put my life in my hand? 15 Though he slay me, I will hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face. 16 This will be my salvation, that the godless shall not come before him. - Job 13:13-16 Upon whom or what are you placing your hope?
