Describe a time when you took on a debt that was hard to pay back? What was it for? How did it feel to try to pay it off? If your sins were equated with racking up debt, how would you describe your “cash flow” through different seasons of your life? What are some of the “big ticket” sin debt items that have weighed heavy on the books for your personally? What’s wrong with the “Just be patient with me. I’ll pay it all back!” plea of the debtor in Matthew 18? In what ways have you been moved by the principle that “the one who is forgiven much, loves much” (Luke 7:41-48)? What makes it hard to forgive others? What makes it compelling to want to learn to forgive others well? Which is your greatest need: to understand how enormous of a debt Jesus can pay, applying his grace to yourself, or extending his mercy to others?
