Prayer's Abiding Promises

John 15:1-16

By Pastor Kelly Mahoney, February 16, 2025

The promises of prayer are unlocked thru:

  1. A connection to Jesus.
  1. to Jesus’ words.
  1. to Jesus’ loving commands.
  1. in accord with Jesus’ name.

Applying God's Word to Life

  1. Share some of the most extravagant claims or promises you struggled to believe, but found that they were in fact true!
  2. What makes you likely to believe or doubt a profound promise?
  3. How do Jesus’ promises regarding prayer initially strike you?
  4. What do you think Jesus meant when he said “apart from me you can do nothing (v. 5)”?
  5. What does it look like to “abide in Jesus” like a branch relates to a vine? What are some ways that you live this out in your life?
  6. What did Jesus have in mind when he said “if my words abide in you”? In what ways have you experienced this in your life?
  7. What’s the connection between love and obedience for Jesus? For His disciples? For you personally?
  8. Are you God’s slave or God’s friend (v. 12-15)? What’s the difference? 9 What does it look like to live as a friend of Jesus?
  9. What does it look and sound like to pray “in Jesus name”?
  10. What are examples of the upper limits of what God has done in response to prayer in your life, in the Bible, and in history?
  11. How will choose to abide that you might grow in fruitfulness?
