THROUGH YOU: Living a Spirit Filled Life

  • The Old Testament Hebrew word for spirit, ruwach, means a , breath, a violent blast of breath.

    (Genesis 1:2 NLT) Now the earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

  • The New Testament Greek word for spirit, pneuma, meaning a current of air, a strong , a blast of air.

    (John 6:33 NLT) The very words I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

  • To understand how the Holy Spirit works in your life, compare Him to .

    • Wind is

      (John 14:17 NLT) The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

      (John 3:7-8 NLT) I say, you must be born again. The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.

Receiving The Holy Spirit

1. Let go of and misconceptions.

(James 1:17 NLT) Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father…. who never changes.

(Ezekiel 47:3-5 NLT) Measuring as he went, he took me along the stream for 1,750 ft and then led me across. The water was up to my ankles. He measured another 1,750 ft. the water was up to my knees. After another 1,750 ft. it was up to my waist. Then he measured another 1,750 ft. and the river was too deep to walk across. It was deep enough to swim in, but too deep to walk through.

3. Purse an with the Holy Spirit.

(2 Corinthians 13:14 MSG) The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you.

4. When you receive the Holy Spirit, you gain a forever.

(John 14:16 NLT) I will ask the father, and he will give you another Advocate (Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Friend) who will never leave you.

5. When you receive the Holy Spirit Jesus will become of your life and will rule and reign in life by His power.

(1 Corinthians 12:3 NLT) No one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

(Romans 5:17 WBT) For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.

6. When you receive the Holy Spirit, you will receive for your life today and for the future.

(John 16:13 NLT) When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.
