CREATION Genesis 1:1-2:3 | The Seven Days of Creation Genesis 2:4-25 | Man and Woman in the Garden CORRUPTION Genesis 3:1-24 | The Fall of Man Genesis 4:1-5:32 | The Progress of Sin 4:1-16 Cain and Sin 4:17-26 Sin and Generations 5:1-32 Generations and Seth Genesis 4:17-26 “Then Cain went away from the presence of the LORD and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.” (Gen. 4:16) Where does this leave us? What do we see next? The generational impact of our personal relationship with God and sin (Gen. 4:17-26) Is Genesis 3 an isolated event? Is God’s word true, through and through? Is the trajectory of man’s life mechanistically inevitable? Is a violent line of man destined to be the offspring to deal with the serpent? Is a man’s decision to wander from the presence of the Lord generationally inconsequential? Two Generational Errors What do we see about the two lines of generations in Genesis 4:17-26 regarding generational impact? Living life God Living life in on God The corrupted use and abuse of our humanity: Settling and Building…but doing so in of God Building and Making a Name…but for one’s self and for God Marrying and Bearing…but from God’s clear design Working and Developing…but all without any to God Naming and Calling…but to one’s determined plans and not to to man’s place in the world “Ungodliness basically means living your everyday life with little or no thought of God. God is essentially irrelevant in an ungodly person’s life. He just doesn’t come up.” (Jerry Bridges, Respectable Sins: Student Edition, p. 55)
