What now?

Two Big Questions after the Flood

  1. Does God’s judgment overturn man’s sin (evil heart)?
  1. Does man’s sin overturn God’s plan (creative intent)?

Two Big Questions about Genesis 9:1-17

  1. What keeps life going after the flood as God intends and in light of sin?
  • God’s word (re)establishes life after the flood...by His command (Gen. 9:1-7)...by His covenant (Gen. 9:8-17)
  1. What does Genesis 9:1-17 communicate regarding life after the flood?

A New Beginning

  1. Genesis 9:1-7 compared to Genesis 1:28-31
  1. The structure of 9:1-7
  1. The contents of 9:1-7
  • Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth
  • I give everything that moves as food for you
  • You shall not eat flesh with its blood
  • You shall not shed the blood of man

Summary

  1. God’s for creation is still very much operational—He still wants humans to be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth
  2. God is still very much over all of His creation—He isn’t primarily concerned with overpopulation or that man will destroy the earth
  3. God’s word still very much establishes the of all life—it is supremely authoritative and clearly demonstrates what is to be
  • God, by His word, establishes (again) the upon which humanity is to function.
  • God entrusts to Noah and his sons (like Adam), His word, which He intended for them to communicate to subsequent humans and to encourage others to .

Take Home Questions…

  1. Who determines reality? Whose word is ultimately authoritative? Who determines what is right and wrong (good and evil)?
  2. Does God have the right to establish morality? Has God established morality
  3. What is your basis (rationale) for concluding what you conclude (about reality and morality) and for doing what you do?
