COVENANT

Genesis 12:1-25:11 | Abraham

  • 12:1-9 God Establishes a Relationship with Abraham
  • 12:10-13:1 Abram Reasons Unfaithfully in Going Down to Egypt
  • 13:2-18 Abram Reasons Humbly in Deferring to Lot
  • 14:1-24 Abram Defeats His Enemies with the Help of God

Genesis 14:1-24

This passage:

  1. is still a part of the “whole counsel” of God (Acts 20:27)
  2. is specific, by the way it takes pains to reference real history
  3. is an old account, by the way it modernizes certain places
  4. is a good example of real history from the focal point of God’s purposes

Why is this story of five (pagan) kings against four (pagan) kings significant?

Four pagan kings defeat Sodom and Gomorrah and take Lot away (Gen. 14:1-12)

Abram defeats them with the help of God (Gen. 14:13-24)
