Purpose: To give believers the advanced history of how Jesus Christ by means of judgement, becomes King, with a view towards calling Christians to faithfulness and to godliness.

Revelation 1-3 (Past) < Us (Present) > Revelation 4-22 (Future)

The Throne Room of God (Rev. 4:1-11)

The Significance of the Scroll (Rev. 5:1; Psalm 82:8; Acts 1:6-7)

The Lamb (Jesus) will open the seven seals sequentially. Opened in heaven, with earthly consequences:

  • Seal 1 – Rev. 6:1-2 – “False Peace”
  • Seal 2 – Rev. 6:3-4 – “War”
  • Seal 3 - Rev. 6:5-6 – “Famine”
  • Seal 4 - Rev. 6:7-8 – “Death”
  • Seal 5 - Rev. 6:9-11 – “Persecution of the Saints”
  • Seal 6 – Rev. 6:12-17 – “God’s wrath, poured out on creation.”
  • Seal 7 – Rev. 8:1-5 – The seventh seal summons seven angels with trumpets (Rev. 11:15)

The Lamb Theme

  • Old Testament – “Where is the Lamb?” (cf. Isaiah 53)
