Abraham sojourns in Gerar and reasons unfaithfully (again), but God proves He is able to fulfill His word (yet again).

  • God’s assessment of man’s conduct is what matters most—He determines what is right and wrong.
  • Man’s conduct can be rightly assessed by God as deserving death regardless of man’s knowledge or intentions.
  • The rightness or wrongness of man’s conduct is not firstly determined by what is known, but by what God has established as true.
  • There can be related, yet different degrees of conduct that result in an escalation of the severity of consequences.
  • God always conducts Himself justly and is even able to keep man from conducting himself more wrongly than he would on his own.
  • Man is ultimately responsible in his conduct towards God and to hear God’s word and respond according to His will.
