PROVEN: A Faith that's Practical, Prudent, and Patient

Review

What is James talking about in the passage before us? (James2:1-7)

Those who are truly believers in Jesus Christ will hold their faith in Him in a way that is consistent with true faith:

Believers should hold their faith in Jesus Christ by not showing partiality.

Romans 2:9-12; Ephesians 6:9; Colossians 3:23-25

Showing partiality is when we (1) make unrighteous distinctions—for and/or against others—(2) and respond accordingly in practical ways.

Showing partiality is inconsistent with the way you have been treated

We have a tendency:

  • to see and respond much like “the world” does (cf. 1:27)
  • to treat others the way we’ve been treated by others
  • to forget who God is (and what He’s like) and who we are in Him (and therefore what we are to be like)
  • to clamor for position and possessions on earth even though it’s passing away and we’re already promised the age to come

Do you have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?

Are you holding your faith in Him without showing partiality?
