Jacob deceived Esau and Issac Fled to Laban The deceiver was himself deceived for 20 years God sends Jacob back to the promised land He would have to face Esau

Vs. 24 “A man wrestled with him until the break of day”

  • wrestling – one of the most individual sports

Vs. 25 “Jacob’s thigh was put out of joint”

There is a for wrestling with God – do this and you will

Vs. 26 “I will not let you go until you bless me”

  • Jacob had been humbled

  • Jacob would until he received from God what he wanted

  • Simply wrestling with God is not enough

  • This is a picture faith and prayer combined with total commitment physically and spiritually

Vs. 27 “What is your name?”

Israel –

Jacob went to his brother a broken man. He could not even defend himself physically anymore. God must intervene.

Jacob was now on God.

What do we learn about God from this?

God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble James 4:7

God will accomplish His will in your life, even if He has to break you.

Who are you now?

Are you willing to wrestle with God?

Are you willing to experience God humbling you?

Will you receive who you are becoming?
