He was remorseful he got caught, not that he sinned. Unintentional Disobedience—Joshua 9: The Gibeonites Because the people of the land of Canaan were idolatrous and would influence Israel, the Lord told them to eliminate all of the inhabitants of the land. Most nations tried to defeat Israel. But one group used deceit. Professing to be from a far away country, the Gibeonites put on dirty old clothes and worn out shoes and took old bags, wineskins, and moldy provisions.
