Sometimes suffering makes sense.

Other times, suffering does not make sense.

  • We see this in the book of .

From Job one may ask: How can God be loving and allow suffering?

But through the Gospel we should ask: Would we know the love of God if He did not allow suffering?

James 5:11

Who was Job? Job 1:1-1:5

  • Man of faith (1:1)
  • Man who feared God (1:1)
  • Family man (1:2, 4-5)
  • Financially Successful man (1:3)

For the reader only. Job 1:6-12, 2:1-6

  • Satan is personally accountable to God (1:6; 2:1)
  • Satan actively prowls on the earth (1:7; 2:2)
  • God acknowledges Job and is very proud (1:8; 2:3)
  • Satan’s accusation is personal (1:9-11; 2:4-5)
  • Satan’s attack is permitted (1:12; 2:6)

Main Idea:

  • Many times our suffering does not make sense.
    • From Job we learn to trust God’s beyond what we do not understand.

  • Keep your (1:22; 2:3, 10)
