HEAR THE WORD

Luke 9:18-27

I. The Correct Assessment of Jesus (vv. 18-22)
The word Christ means or Anointed One
II. The Call of Disicpleship (vv. 23-27)
1) Oneself
2) Take Up One's Daily
"The cross is not the terrible end to an other-wise god-fearing and happy life, but it meets us at the beginning of our communion with Christ. When Christ calls a person, he bids him come and die. It may be a death like that of the first disciples who had to leave home and work to follow him, or it may be a death like Luther's, who had to leave the monastery and go out into the world. But it is the same death every time--death in Jesus Christ, the death of an old man at his call." - Bonhoeffer
- Cross-bearing requires that we be to endure loss and disgrace for Jesus' sake.
- Cross-bearing requires that we renounce all hope in resources for our salvation.
- Cross-bearing requires that we live with the reoriented priorities of the dead.
3) Jesus
