HEAR THE WORD

Romans 8:1-11

1. You are enabled because you have been made new in Christ

2. You are enabled, therefore you are fully equipped
3. You are enabled, therefore you can walk in newness of life (Romans 6)

If we are changed, why don’t we live like we are changed?

  • We just live

“We who are believers tend to evaluate our character and conduct relative to the moral culture in which we live. Since we usually live at a higher moral standard than at society at large, it is easy for us to feel good about ourselves and to assume that God feels that way also. We fail to reckon with the reality of sin still dwelling within us.” - Jerry Bridges, “Respectable Sins”

  • We believe the lie that we aren’t changed

“The great mistake many of us make is to look only at our sin and failure, and then ask, a little despairingly, what can I do? But our need is not to do, it is first of all to understand what God has done; to see that what he has made us through his Son is a man or woman who has died with Christ to Sin’s dominion and has been raised with Christ to newness of life.” - Sinclair Ferguson, “The Christian Life”

  • We may not have been changed
