Call to Worship

The Spirit blows life through us all. We gather in the renewing life the Spirit gives to us. Let us then worship with great joy, and celebrate the new life among us. We bring praise and song, joy and laughter before God! Let the world hear our praises!

Hymn “Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart” (vs. 1,4 & 5) UMH 500

Opening Prayer Gracious God, Living, Eternal Spirit, we thank you that you seek us in tender loving care, lest any be lost. Help us, in the same way, to reach out toward those who may feel alienated or excluded from the Christian community. Send your Spirit upon us,that when we speak the word of your love, people may hear and understand in their own language as on that Pentecost day so long ago; for we pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Congregational Appreciation

**The flowers on the altar this morning are given to the glory of God by Pastor Helen in honor of Bishop Debra, Loretta Isaiah and the entire Cabinet. Our prayers surround them and Annual Conference this week.

If you would like to help place flowers on the Altar, consider a donation to the flower fund. The altar guild would like to invite you to sponsor the altar flowers. Each vase costs $25. We give God thanks to the Altar Guild for the flowers this morning. When you sponsor the altar flowers, you may do so in memory or in honor of someone or a special event or anniversary. Go to stoutmemorial.org/altarflowers for more information.

The Stout Memorial Altar Flower ministry needs smiling faces to deliver Sunday flowers. A sign-up sheet is on the welcome desk in the Gathering space along with directions for delivery. Presenting flowers helps to create smiles.

Our Mission: We exist to see all people find Hope, Healing, and Wholeness through Jesus Christ.

Pentecost is also considered the birthday of the Christian church, as it marks the beginning of its mission to the world. According to the book of Acts in the New Testament, when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples, they started to speak in different languages and proclaimed the gospel to the crowds gathered in Jerusalem.
