Sermon Notes: “The Wonder of His Ministry” Mark 1:21-22; 29-31; 4:35-39; 2:1-12 6.15.25 Authority Unleashed: Power Over and (Mark 1:29-31) Jesus operated with a fundamentally different kind of power that sets Him apart from every other figure in human history. Power Over (Mark 4:35-39) Jesus operated with authority that belongs to alone. Power Over (Mark 2:1-12) Jesus possessed God's authority over humanity's problem. Power Over (Mark 5:21-24, 35-42) Only Jesus actually the power to conquer death. So What? • Source: While others claimed power God, Jesus operated God. • Scope: While others might heal people , Jesus had authority over sickness, nature, sin, AND . • Sovereignty: While others needed to pray or perform rituals, Jesus simply spoke with authority. Will you allow that same power to work in and through your life today? For Study, Reflection, Discussion: Review the sermon notes from Sunday. Was there a particular point that stuck with you? What was it and why did it resonate with you? 2. Read Mark 1:29-31 Jesus healed with just a touch, demonstrating power no other religious leader has consistently shown. How does knowing that Jesus has this kind of healing authority change how you approach your own health struggles or those of people you care about? 3. Read Mark 4:35-39 Professional fishermen were terrified by a storm, yet Jesus spoke to it like “a master addressing unruly servants.” What "storms" in your life feel completely out of control right now? How might Jesus's authority over nature apply to those chaotic situations? 4. Read Mark 2:1-12 Jesus deliberately chose to forgive sins first, knowing it would make the religious leaders “flip their lid” because only God can forgive sins. Why do you think Jesus was so intentional about claiming this divine authority? How does this affect your understanding of forgiveness in your own life? 5. Read Mark 5:21-24, 35-42 While other religions have resurrection hopes, only Jesus actually demonstrated power over death—both for others and ultimately for Himself. How does this unique demonstration of power over humanity's greatest limitation impact your view of what happens after death? Specific Action Step: This week: Each morning this week, specifically ask Jesus to demonstrate His wonder-working power in that area using the same authority He showed in His ministry. Be a Wonder Witness: Look for one opportunity this week to be the hands and feet of Jesus’ ongoing ministry—pray for someone's healing, speak peace into someone's chaos, offer forgiveness, or share hope with someone facing a "dead end." Work in our lives with that same power. Help us share Your healing, peace, forgiveness, and hope with others who need heaven to collide with earth. In Jesus's name. Amen.
