Week 3

By Michael Storts, October 18, 2026

Big Idea of the Series: This four-week series helps us understand what the Bible says about the end of life and what follows after death. We will finish the series confident that God is just and has good plans for those who love Him.

  • Culture states: Hell is not that bad, and Heaven is not that good.
  • The Bible states: Hell is worse than bad, and Heaven is better than good.

John 3:16-18 NLT “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him. But anyone who does not believe in him has already been judged for not believing in God’s one and only Son.

  • Culture states:There is no hell.
  • The Bible states: There is a hell.

Matthew 25:46 NLT “And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.”

Revelation 20:11-15 NLT And I saw a great white throne and the one sitting on it. The earth and sky fled from his presence, but they found no place to hide.I saw the dead, both great and small, standing before God’s throne. And the books were opened, including the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to what they had done, as recorded in the books. The sea gave up its dead, and death and the grave gave up their dead. And all were judged according to their deeds. Then death and the grave were thrown into the lake of fire. This lake of fire is the second death. And anyone whose name was not found recorded in the Book of Life was thrown into the lake of fire.

  • Culture states: We all will get a second chance.
  • The Bible states: This life is our only chance.

Ezekiel 18:32 NLT I don’t want you to die, says the Sovereign LORD. Turn back and live!

Hebrews 9:27 NLT And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment

What is hell like?

  • Eternal separation from God

  • Eternal torment & anguish

  • Eternal fire

  • Eternal regret

  • Outer darkness

  • Culture states: God sends people to hell.

  • The Bible states: God does not send people to hell.

Ezekiel 33:11 NLT As surely as I live, says the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of wicked people. I only want them to turn from their wicked ways so they can live. Turn! Turn from your wickedness, O people of Israel! Why should you die?

1 Timothy 2:1-7 NLT I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Saviorwho wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. For, There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone. This is the message God gave to the world at just the right time. And I have been chosen as a preacher and apostle to teach the Gentiles this message about faith and truth. I’m not exaggerating—just telling the truth.
