Stop looking for a way around when God wants to make a way through • God Provides a Way When There Seems to Be None Exodus 14:21–22 (ESV) 21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong east wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the people of Israel went into the midst of the sea on dry ground, the waters being a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. Matthew 8:26–27 (ESV) 26 And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. 27 And the men marveled, saying, “What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?” “Sometimes God will let you stand in front of a sea, not so you can learn to swim, but so you can watch Him split it.” Isaiah 43:19 (ESV) “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” • The Path to a Miracle is Paved with Obedience Joshua 3:14–17 (ESV) 14 So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, 15 and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest), 16 the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho. 17 Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan. The sequence is often “obedience first, miracle second.” We pray: “God, part the water and I’ll step in,” God says: “Step in, and I’ll part the water." Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV) “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” What first step has God been asking me to take that I’ve delayed because I want to see the whole plan? What decision, conversation, or leap of faith have I put off because I’m waiting for the waters to part first? • The God Who Made a Way Then Will Make a Way Now Isaiah 46:9–10 “Remember the former things of old; for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’” Matthew 16:18 (ESV) 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. If you’re standing at your own Red Sea today, you don’t need a new God; you need a fresh step of faith toward the same God who still makes a way.
