Wounds

Monday: Certain Hope in an Uncertain World

Reading: Romans 8:18-25

Devotional: Life often presents us with uncertainty disappointments. Yet, as followers of Jesus, our hope is not rooted in just the circumstances around us, but in something far greater. Paul reminds us that our present sufferings pale in comparison to the future that awaits us. This hope is not wishful thinking, but a confident expectation based on God's promises. Today, reflect on areas where you may have placed your hope in temporary things. How can you shift your perspective from the immediate circumstances to the eternal hope we have in Christ?

Prayer Practice: Close your eyes. Focus on breathing in, holding that breath, and slowly breathing out. Repeat several times. Imagine Jesus beside you. What does he have to say to you today?

Day 2: The Wounds of Christ, Our Comfort

Reading: John 20:19-29

Devotional: The resurrected Jesus still bore the marks of crucifixion, a profound reminder that Jesus intimately understands human suffering. These wounds were not just proof of his resurrection, but a testament to his empathy and solidarity with our pain. When you face trials or bear scars from past hurts, remember that Jesus reaches out to you with wounded hands. His scars are a bridge of compassion, connecting our brokenness to God’s loving heart. Today, bring your own wounds to Jesus. Prayer Practice: Reflect on wounds, old or new, that still hurt. Imagine handing these over to Jesus. Tell him about it. Receive the breath of new life and healing.

Day 3: Faith That Overcomes Doubt

Reading: Matthew 14:22-33

Devotional: Like Thomas in the upper room, we often struggle with doubt. Peter did the impossible for a moment as he stepped out in faith, but as soon as he noticed the ways he began to sink. Jesus was right there to lift him up with an outstretched hand. Today, when you begin to feel overwhelmed, like wind and waves are crashing over your mind or your heart. Stop. Pray. Remember Psalm 46 “Be still and know that I am God.”

Day 4: Transforming Pain into Purpose

Reading: Romans 5:1-5

Devotional: Pastor Josh shared a story about how God can use our deepest pain as a catalyst for incredible ministry. Paul teaches that suffering produces perseverance, character, and ultimately, hope. This is not mere positive thinking, but a profound spiritual truth: God can redeem and repurpose our wounds for ministry with others. Reflect on your own journey. How has God transformed your difficult experiences to shape you? Consider how sharing these experiences might encourage others and help them experience Jesus more deeply.

Day 5: Unshakeable Hope in God's Presence

Reading: Psalm 46:1-11

Devotional: In a world of constant change and uncertainty, Psalm 46 reminds us that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. This truth is the foundation of unshakeable hope. No matter what chaos swirls around us – be it personal crises, global pandemics, or societal upheavals – God remains steadfast. Today, meditate on the image of God as a might mountain. In what areas of your life do you need to experience God’s sheltering presence? Take time to be still, allowing God’s peace to calm your fears and renew your hope.
