MY NOTES

5-Day Devotional | Acts 17:16–33

5-Day Devotional: Paul in Athens

Based on Acts 17:16–33 & Ephesians 2:11–22

Day 1 – God Gives Life to All

📖Scripture: Acts 17:24–25

“He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things.”

💬From the Sermon: “It’s not just humans imbued with life in the essence of God’s Spirit. It’s everything in creation. God infused all that exists with the very life of God.”

🪷Reflection: How would your perspective change if you believed every tree, every breath, every part of creation carries God’s Spirit?

  • Where do you most easily sense God’s presence in creation?
  • What practices might help you slow down and notice God’s life in all things?

Day 2 – God Is Near

📖Scripture: Acts 17:27

“That they would search for God and perhaps feel after him and find him—though indeed he is not far from each one of us.”

💬From the Sermon: “God is literally everywhere, in all living things. Which means God is always near to us, in each other, in our very cells and in the rest of the natural world.”

🪷Reflection: God is closer than you think. This week, pay attention to small moments that remind you of God’s nearness.

  • When have you “felt after God” and realized God was already near?
  • How might you remind yourself of God’s nearness in difficult times?

Day 3 – Turn Back

📖Scripture: Acts 17:30

“Now he commands all people everywhere to repent.”

💬From the Sermon: “Repentance literally means to turn back. God says, trust that I will give you life and breath in a way that other stuff just can’t.”

🪷Reflection: Repentance is less about fear of punishment and more about returning to relationship with God.

  • What “empty things” do you find yourself turning toward for meaning or comfort?
  • How might you practice turning back to God this week?

Day 4 – The Known God

📖Scripture: Acts 17:23

“I found among them an altar with the inscription, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown, this I proclaim to you.”

💬From the Sermon: “This is not lots of little energies or little gods hidden in various places. This is one divine energy flowing through and holding all things together in love and grace.”

🪷Reflection: God is not far-off or unknowable, but chooses to be known in creation, in Jesus, and in us.

  • How has your picture of God grown or changed over time?
  • Where do you need to trust that God is already at work in ways you may not yet see?

Day 5 – In God We Live

📖Scripture: Acts 17:28

“In him we live and move and have our being.”

💬From the Sermon: “There is nowhere we can go where we won’t be able to encounter and engage with God. God is tangible and accessible everywhere we turn.”

🪷Reflection: Every breath you take is a reminder that your life is held in God.

  • How does it change your daily outlook to know your very being is sustained by God?
  • What practice could help you carry this awareness into your everyday routine?
