5-Day Devotional

5-Day Devotional – Lead with Love

Day 1 – The Foundation of Leadership

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:1

“If I speak in tongues, but don’t have love, I’m a noisy gong, a clashing cymbal.”

Quote: “Love is the foundation of truly great leadership.”

Reflection: Leadership without love might look effective for a while, but it will always hit a limit. Think about the leaders you admire most—aren’t they remembered not only for accomplishments, but also for how they loved? Jesus showed us that love is not optional, it’s essential for leadership that changes the world.

Questions:

  • Who is a leader you admire, and how did they lead with love?
  • Where are you tempted to lead by power or force rather than love?

Day 2 – Love Beyond Boundaries

Scripture: Leviticus 19:34

“You shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt.”

Quote: “God’s love goes beyond my family, beyond my tribe, beyond my people. God’s love is expansive.”

Reflection: God’s command to love wasn’t just about neighbors and friends—it was also about strangers, outsiders, even enemies. When we expand our love beyond what feels natural, we begin to reflect the heart of God to the world.

Questions:

  • Who might God be calling you to love beyond your “tribe” this week?
  • What makes that difficult—and how can you lean on God for strength?
  • Consider a time you have seen someone love an enemy or someone you would think they would hate? How did they do it? How does that model of love impact you?

Day 3 – Love Is More Than Nice

Scripture: Proverbs 27:6

“Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.”

Quote: “To love someone means loving them enough to be honest with them.”

Reflection: Love doesn’t always look like “being nice.” Jesus corrected, challenged, and told hard truths—always out of love. Leadership rooted in love is willing to risk discomfort for the sake of truth and growth.

Questions:

  • When has someone’s honesty helped you grow, even when it was hard to hear?
  • Who in your life might need loving truth from you right now?
  • How can you better convey a posture (and attitude) of openness to receiving challenging, but loving & true feedback from your family, coworkers, or friends?

Day 4 – Jesus’ Example

Scripture: John 13:14–15

“If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example.”

Quote: “Jesus loved them enough to sit at the table, and wash the feet even of Judas who would betray him and say I love you.”

Reflection: Jesus flips the script on leadership. Authority isn’t about lording over others—it’s about kneeling, serving, and loving. When we lead this way, we mirror Christ to the world.

Questions:

  • Where is God calling you to “wash feet” this week?
  • How might serving others change the way you lead?

Day 5 – Leading Like Jesus Today

Scripture: John 13:34

“Love one another as I have loved you.”

Quote: “God is calling the church to lead the way in love today.”

Reflection: The world is starving for leaders who will love like Jesus. Not just those who love when it’s easy, but those who love expansively, even sacrificially. This is the leadership that transforms communities, churches, and the world.

Questions:

  • What does it mean for you to lead with love in your family, workplace, or community?
  • How can you intentionally practice leading with love this week?
