5-Day Devotional — Servanthood & Humility

Lead Like Jesus — Servanthood & Humility

Practice humility, serve others, and carry the fragrance of Christ into the world.

Day 1 — The Question of Humility

📖 Scripture: Mark 10:32–45
“Are you humble?”
Humility is rare but unmistakable. In Mark 10, Jesus redirects the disciples from pursuing honor to embracing service. Greatness in the kingdom is not status but servanthood. Begin this week by inviting God to cultivate a humble posture in daily choices.
  • Who in your life models humility in a way that made you admire and respect them?
  • Where might God be inviting a small step of humility today (choosing to serve rather than be served)?
Challenge: Do one hidden act of service today.

Day 2 — Serving Fosters Unity

📖 Scripture: Leviticus 19:18; 1 Peter 4:10
“Serving fosters unity.”
Service shifts attention from self to neighbor. Unity grows when we check in on others, share time, and offer help. Simple acts bind communities together and witness to the kingdom of God.
  • Where could a consistent small act of service create connection in your neighborhood or workplace?
  • Who might you invite to serve alongside you this week?
Challenge: Pray for and contact one neighbor to ask how you can help.

Day 3 — Serving Builds Relationships

📖 Scripture: 1 Peter 4:10–11; Philippians 2:3–4
“Serving builds relationships.”
Serving opens doors for trust and teamwork. As relationships deepen, honest care and spiritual growth become possible. Ask the Holy Spirit for opportunities to strengthen someone through practical love.
  • When has someone’s service (large or small) strengthened your relationship?
  • Who could you encourage this week with a practical act of care?
Challenge: Encourage one person today with a note, meal, or helpful task.

Day 4 — Servanthood as Identity

📖 Scripture: Mark 10:44–45; Luke 22:27
“True servanthood becomes part of who we are, not just something we do when convenient.”
Service that lasts is more than volunteering—it is a way of being. Choose patterns that form a servant’s heart over time: regular prayer, scheduled acts of care, and showing up for those in need.
  • What weekly practice could help service become part of your identity?
  • What resistance do you feel, and how might the Holy Spirit help you overcome it?
Challenge: Commit to one recurring act of service for the next month.

Day 5 — Greatness by Serving Jesus

📖 Scripture: Mark 10:45; 1 Corinthians 13
“Everyone can achieve greatness by serving Jesus.”
Jesus redefines greatness: “not to be served but to serve.” Each humble act can open hearts, mend relationships, and point people to life in Jesus. “May humility be the fragrance we carry.”
  • How has serving Jesus changed your understanding of success and greatness?
  • What public act of humble service could your household undertake together this month?
Challenge: Plan and complete one household service project together.
