Day 1 — Mission Statement in Motion Luke 4:16–21
📖 Scripture: Luke 4:16–21
“Jesus was good at mission statements… But more important than having an explicit sense of purpose, Jesus was good at mission statements because he put his into action.”
In Luke 4, Jesus names the mission: bring good news to the poor, release to the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, freedom for the oppressed. Then Jesus actually lives it. The sermon reminds us this wasn’t theory — “This story in Luke kicked off a three-year journey of Jesus doing nothing but live out his mission statement in all that he said and did. Jesus knew how to get after it.”
Ask: is my faith mostly words, or is it moving my body, my schedule, my money, my voice?
- What would you name as your “mission statement” right now?
- Where in your daily life is that mission actually showing up?
Practice: Pray Luke 4:18–19 out loud today as your commissioning. Let it set your agenda.
Day 2 — Focus Without Losing People John 6:1–13; Luke 22:7–13; John 19:26–27
📖 Scripture: Feeding the 5,000; Preparing Passover; Care from the cross
“Execution didn’t make Jesus rigid or uncaring. He was unwavering, but it was always tempered with compassion, because his mission meant nothing if people were not at the heart of it.”
Pastor Amy talked about how Jesus stayed on mission and also cared for people in front of him:
“He didn’t treat people or needs outside of his mission as disposable or invaluable… he listened, showed compassion, and honored those he came across.”
Jesus feeds the hungry (“You give them something to eat”), delegates the Passover prep, and even from the cross makes sure someone will care for his mother. “Jesus never strayed from his goal; he was a pro at mission execution.”
Real Kingdom execution is not cold efficiency. It is focused love.
- Where do you feel stretched between “the mission” and “the people” right now?
- What would it look like to stay focused and still honor the human in front of you?
Practice: Choose one person today and slow down long enough to really listen, without rushing them off so you can “get back to work.”
Day 3 — Faith in the Hands of the People 1 Corinthians 12:12; Ephesians 4:1–7
📖 Scripture: The body of Christ; equipping the saints
“Luther wanted to put the work of faith back into the hands of the people… We are all ministers in our own contexts.”
Reformation was never just about ideas. It was about unleashing everyday disciples to live out the Gospel. “We can talk about the mission here as much as we want to, but DOING it out in the community is the only way it is realized.”
You are not waiting for someone holier, louder, or more qualified to do the work of Jesus. You are called, anointed, and sent.
- Where is your ministry context? — the place you actually show up every day?
- What would it mean to treat that space as ministry instead of just routine?
Practice: Bless your daily space. Literally speak: “This classroom / office / home / shop floor is part of the mission of Jesus.”
Day 4 — Your Commissioning Is Clear Luke 4:18–19
📖 Scripture: Luke 4:18–19
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon you, because God has anointed you to bring good news to the poor… to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are oppressed… Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in our hearing.”
Pastor Amy reminds us that this is your calling to execute on, in your own specific way and corner of the world.
You don’t have to copy someone else. “We aren’t Jesus, so the way we do it will be different from the way he did it… the task is to figure out what it looks like to live this out, without distraction, every day, with everyone, in every arena of our lives.”
This is not abstract. It’s daily, local, and personal.
- Which part of Luke 4:18–19 feels most urgent in your context right now: good news to the poor? Release for the captive? sight for the blind? Freedom for the oppressed?
- Where could you take one step toward that today?
Practice: Name one injustice, one wound, or one need near you — and decide one faithful step toward it this week.
Day 5 — Get After It! (Right Where You Are) Nehemiah 3 (overview)
📖 Scripture: Nehemiah 3
“Nehemiah is such an efficient leader, because he executes the rebuilding of the city wall by asking everyone to just build the part in their own yard.”
Living our your mission is not about waiting for the perfect global plan, it’s about starting where you are. It is about shifting your perspective and seeing every moment, every space, every part of our lives a opportunity to be the presence of Jesus.
You are not asked to fix everything. You are asked to faithfully build your part of the wall.
- What is “your yard” — the piece of the wall God is asking you to build?
- Whose flourishing depends on you following through?
Practice: Write one sentence: “This week I will execute the mission by _________ in my corner of the world.” Live that sentence.
