God's Love for Waterbrooke | Ephesians 3:14-21

SERMON NOTES

By Pastor Kevin Dibbley, August 03, 2025

Waterbrooke seeks to be a gospel-centered multi-ethnic family that is captivated by Jesus, compelled to love others, and called to make disciples to the glory of God.

Waterbrooke exists to explore, to embody and to expand redemptive community in the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ and to the praise of His glory.

A. The Dream of God - Ephesians 3:14-15

The Dream of God: One family united by christ out all the peoples of the earth for all eternity living in redemptive Love.

“For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named…” - Ephesians 3:14-15 “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.” - Ephesians 2:19

  • In Creation, God made us with capacity for deep personal relationship with Himself and deep personal relationship one another.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

“Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make a helper fit for Him.’" Genesis 2:18

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24

“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.’” Matthew 22:35-40

“We all are born into the world looking for someone looking for us, and that we remain in this mode of searching for the rest of our lives.” Dr. Curt Thompson

  • In Redemption, God made us new in Christ with capacity for deep personal relationship with Himself and deep personal relationship one another

“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”. Ephesians 5:1-2

“When you can’t become whatever you want to be, you can discover who you are… a beloved child of God. ‘Is this enough for you?’” Sheridan Voysey

B. The Drama of the Church - Ephesians 3:16-19

“that according to the riches of his glory, he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith – that you being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” Ephesians 3:16-19

The Church is the invitation of God to go on the extraordinary journey of discovering family as it was meant through the redemptive power of Jesus Christ.

“This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. – Ephesians 3:6

We don’t easily enter relationships or risk after we have been injured. We look for “People with whom we have I felt seen, soothed, safe, and made to feel secure.” Kurt Thompson

Discipleship is the God given gift of having the inner fortitude (the Faith) to risk again to love one another For the Sake of Christ

“that according to the riches of his glory, he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith – that you being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

If you are going to know the breadth, length, height and depth of God’s love, you are going to have to have courage and faith from Christ to live in community with God’s people.

C. The Drive of the Church – To Glorify God. Ephesians 3:20-21

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21

The Drive of our mission is to display what has been eternally beautiful and glorious about the Triune God. He is Love.
