The Builders, Part 6: The Work Continues

Builders That Multiply

By Pastor Clint McMakin, August 31, 2025

2 Timothy 2:2 “And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

Nehemiah 6:3 “So I sent messengers to them with this reply: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?”

And

Matthew 28:19: “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

We’re getting close to the final stretch of our Builders series.

And today, the focus shifts from what we’ve built… to what will last.

From PRESENCE to PURPOSE.

From STRUCTURE to SUCCESSION.

Because what good is a house… if no one is raised up to live in it?

Someone to inherit the house.

Good builders always multiply.

Good builders raise up apprentices.

In Nehemiah 6:3 we read: “I am carrying on a great project and cannot go down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and go down to you?”

Nehemiah’s response is a masterclass in focus.

He recognizes the importance of the work he’s doing and refuses to be sidetracked.

It’s a reminder that not every invitation or opportunity deserves our time. Especially when it’s a distraction from a greater calling.

Nehemiah shows confidence and clarity.

He values the task God gave him more than the need to appease or explain himself to opponents.

There comes a time in every builder’s life where the work becomes bigger than themselves.

Even when tempted to break or be distracted we must have a sense of urgency.

We must build for that which comes after.

When what we’re building isn’t just about our hands, but about the hands we’re training to continue the work.

Let’s recap quickly about what we have learned thus far.

Part 1. The Burden – Vision begins in the heart.

Part 2. The Blueprint – God reveals His divine plan.

Part 3. The Foundation – Jesus is the Cornerstone.

Part 4. The Structure – We are living stones custom cut for our place in the wall.

  1. The Presence – The house is for Him to dwell and for His glory.

Now we must ask ourselves: What happens when the house is built?

What happens when the fire has fallen, and the glory has come?

Then what… It must continue!

There must be a group that is constantly growing.

In age, knowledge, and depth.

But how is that group taught?

How do they grow?

  1. KINGDOM BUILDERS MULTIPLY, NOT MAINTAIN

Matthew 28:19 – “Go and make disciples of all nations…”

Considering these are Jesus’s last words to us, they must be kind of important.

Jesus didn’t say, “Go and gather crowds.”

He didn’t say, “Go and build big things.”

He said, “Make disciples.”

This is the Great Commission, not a Great Suggestion.

Discipleship is not an optional ministry; it is the mission.

We are to go, whether it’s next door or to the ends of the earth, and make disciples.

It’s for all that call Jesus Lord.

Builders Think Generationally.

A true builder doesn’t just build once. He trains others to build too.

If it dies with you, it wasn’t legacy… it was a moment.

And moments fade. But legacy lives on.

2 Timothy 2:2 our key verse this morning.

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”

It is a four-generation vision:

Paul → Timothy → Reliable People → Others

That’s multiplication. That’s how the church continues.

If the church were to consistently follow this advice in 2 Timothy, it would expand geometrically and exponentially.

Well taught believers would teach others and commission them, in turn, to teach others still.

Disciples need to be equipped to pass on their faith.

Our work is not done until new believers are able to make disciples of others.

But how does discipleship create a ripple effect, building God’s kingdom wider and stronger?

What happens when one small stone hits the water?

A pebble represents you, a disciple built by God.

When you follow His blueprint, sharing Jesus with one person, it creates a ripple.

That person becomes a disciple too, strengthened by the same foundation.

Just as God planted the burden in your heart, you plant it in others.

The Multiplying Ripples

Now, the first disciple helps build another. Like adding living stones to the structure.

The ripples grow, touching more areas.

This is multiplication: Each new builder shares God’s presence, creating more disciples who multiply further.

It’s not addition.

It’s exponential growth.

Just like how Jesus’ small group of disciples grew into the global generational church.

God’s kingdom expands through us as multiplying builders.

Start with one act; sharing your faith, mentoring someone and watch the ripples build something glorious for Him.

Identify one ‘pebble’. A person you can ripple into by sharing God’s blueprint.

Pray for opportunities to multiply.

  1. WE MUST BE ABOUT BUILDING PEOPLE, NOT PLATFORMS

2 Timothy 2:2 – “Entrust to faithful people…”

We live in an age of platforms.

Influence is measured in clicks and followers.

But Kingdom influence is measured in faithfulness.

You don’t have to be famous to be fruitful.

As a matter of fact, fame and fortune are pitfalls to producing spiritual fruit.

God is not impressed with platforms. He is moved by people and their heart. This is the concept of the Kingdom Economy.

Investing in others is how we invest in Heaven.

You don’t need a stage to multiply; you need a heart that’s willing to pour out.

If you’re building your name, your legacy dies with you.

If you’re building His name, your legacy lives forever.

The Bible is full of these examples.

History is full of people that didn’t know they would be famous or infamous.

They just did what needed to be done in the moment.

What needed to be done in the multiplying.

Legacy is not built on gifting.

It’s built on giving.

Ask yourself: Who am I building into?

If your platform disappeared tomorrow… would your fruit remain?

  1. RAISING UP THE NEXT GENERATION OF BUILDERS

Psalm 145:4 “One generation shall commend your works to another, they tell of your mighty acts.”

The knowledge of God’s power, faithfulness, and mighty deeds shouldn’t stay confined to one group or time.

It must be shared, taught, and celebrated across generations.

This is generational discipleship.

Don’t just build for your children, build into them.

Don’t just build for the next generation, build with them.

Your Life Is Someone’s Blueprint.

Young eyes are watching your example.

You may not feel like a mentor, but you’re already modeling something.

Let it be a model of surrender, obedience, and Spirit-filled passion.

Every builder must eventually become a mentor.

If we don’t pour out, we dry up.

Moses had Joshua.

Elijah had Elisha.

Paul had Timothy.

Who has you?

This isn’t about age, it’s about intention.

Whether you’re 19 or 91, you’re called to raise someone up.

Which brings me to my final point.

  1. LEGACY IS BUILT THROUGH DISCIPLESHIP

John 15:8 “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

Fruitfulness is proof of authentic discipleship.

It’s not about just claiming to follow Jesus, but actually living it out in tangible ways.

And true Kingdom fruit reproduces.

If what you’re building ends with you, it’s not fruit, it’s ungerminated seed.

Ask yourself:

What am I multiplying?

My personality or His presence?

My brand or His burden?

The early church didn’t multiply because of clever marketing or flashy events.

They multiplied because disciples made disciples, house to house, heart to heart.

Multiplication happens in life-on-life moments.

In times of relationship building.

In the day to day.

In times of group prayer.

In shared meals.

In cups of coffee.

In late-night calls in times of need.

In conversations.

TODAY WE ANSWER THE CALL TO MULTIPLY

I ask you these questions:

Who are you currently discipling or building up?

Who’s coming after you?

Is your life producing spiritual sons and daughters, or are you only producing for today?

Are you stewarding your influence to raise others?

Let's shift our mission statement this morning.

Mission Statement:

I am not just a builder,

I am a multiplier.

I build with purpose,

for people,

for presence,

and for the generations.

I will not hoard the mission.

I will hand it off.

I will train.

I will teach.

I will entrust.

The work will continue through me.

In closing, may this be our plea:

May the Lord make us builders who multiply.

May He teach us to invest in others with wisdom, grace, and boldness.

May the Holy Spirit bring the Timothy’s, the Joshua’s, the Elisha’s, the David’s into our lives.

May our ceilings become someone else’s floor.

May the Kingdom expand through our obedience, and may our lives echo through the generations.

This week ask yourselves these questions:

Who should I be pouring into?

What skills, wisdom, or experience can I pass on?

Where can I make room for a younger believer to grow?

Don’t just build something for God.

Build something with God, that continues after you.
