Remembering- Reminds Us Who Provided for Us

Deuteronomy 8:11–13 (NLT) 11 “But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today. 12 For when you have become full and prosperous and have built fine homes to live in, 13 and when your flocks and herds have become very large and your silver and gold have multiplied along with everything else, be careful!

**Careful- “Shamar”- it implies actively guarding or keeping something with great care. **

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) 23 Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Forget- “Shakach”- to forget or to cease to care about something.

Remembering: Removes the Danger of Self-Reliance

Deuteronomy 8:14 (NLT) 14 Do not become proud at that time and forget the Lord your God, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.

**Proud - “Gavah” - signifies arrogance and self-exaltation **

Psalm 103:2 (NLT) 2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

Remembering: Builds Faith for the Future

Deuteronomy 8:16–18 (NLT) 16 He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good. 17 He did all this so you would never say to yourself, ‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ 18 Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.

**Remember- “Zachar” This word emphasizes consciously reflecting on God’s past provisions and actions in our lives. **

**Remembering isn’t just about the past. It’s about building our faith for the future. **

Psalm 77:10–11 (NLT) 10 And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.” 11 But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.

Romans 5:3–4 (NLT) 3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
